Chelsea Cater paints a bird's eye view of our uniquely American ritual feast. Her aesthetic often explores this perspective, that of the map in which forms emerge as organic shapes that jostle side by side. Here we sense that abstract formulation, but are burdened with the overlay of the cultural context of consumption, masquerading as history, tempered with religion. Thus her work takes its place within the Overlord theme offering us the shapes, textures and composition of our annual collective sculptural display, designed to reinforce the quasi-religious nature of our national spirit.
